Mattituck, NY – Rebecca Connelly killed & Three Other Injured in Crash on Rte 48

Mattituck, NY (July 7, 2020) – A woman, identified as 23-year-old Rebecca Connelly of Huntington was killed in a car crash that left four others injured in the town of Mattituck. The fatal accident took place at around 4:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, July 5th.

According to officers, a Ford SUV struck a Honda Civic that was stopped at a red light at the intersection of Route 48 and Westphalia Road. The impact of the collision pushed the Honda approximately 75 feet through the intersection and emergency crews were immediately dispatched to the scene.

Connelly, who was a passenger in the Civic, was pronounced deceased at the scene. All injured victims were transported to a local hospital, including one who was airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center with serious injuries.

Three of the wounded parties have been identified as John Valente, Richard Morabito, and Ronald Baker. Police officials believe distracted driving may have been a factor in the crash but the incident remains under investigation.
