Albuquerque, NM (March 28, 2023) – Authorities say that two people were critically injured after being involved in a crash caused by the driver of a stolen vehicle in the city of Albuquerque. It happened on Monday morning, March 27th, at about 7:45 a.m.
According to the Albuquerque Police Department, authorities were called to the intersection of San Pedro Drive and Bell Avenue after a two-vehicle accident caused by a driver who ran a stop sign. A preliminary investigation showed that John Eugene Bearden Jr. was driving a stolen Chevrolet SUV when he ran a stop sign at the intersection at a high rate of speed.
The SUV struck a Jeep at the junction, which was occupied by a 43-year-old driver and a 10-year-old female passenger. Bearden was ultimately arrested for possession of stolen property and leaving the scene of an accident that caused serious bodily injury.
Both the 43-year-old driver and the 10-year-old girl who were in the Jeep were hospitalized with critical injuries. Few other details are available at this time.
