Ames, IA (March 13, 2025) – One person was injured in a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Oakwood Road and University Boulevard on Monday afternoon.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 1:23 p.m. when a 2016 Toyota Scion, driven by 34-year-old Timothy Joshua Sites of Los Angeles, CA, entered a roundabout without yielding. The vehicle struck a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro, driven by 54-year-old Carla Sue Tidgren of Boone, IA.
Emergency responders, including multiple agencies, arrived at the scene to provide aid. Tidgren sustained injuries in the crash and was transported by Life Flight to Methodist Hospital. Reports confirm that she was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, which likely reduced the severity of her injuries. No additional injuries were reported.
Both vehicles sustained damage and were towed from the scene by Dave’s Towing. Authorities temporarily restricted traffic in the area as they investigated the incident. The Iowa State Patrol continues to review the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim, and we hope for a swift recovery.
Roundabout Accidents in Iowa
Roundabouts are designed to improve traffic flow and reduce severe crashes, yet accidents still occur when drivers fail to yield or misjudge the right of way. In this case, a vehicle entering the roundabout at Oakwood Road and University Boulevard without yielding led to a collision, highlighting the importance of proper navigation in these traffic control systems.
Failing to yield is one of the most common causes of roundabout crashes. When approaching a roundabout, drivers must slow down, observe traffic already circulating, and yield to those on their left before proceeding. Misjudging another vehicle’s speed or entering too quickly can lead to significant accidents, resulting in injuries that may require extensive medical treatment.
Victims of roundabout collisions often face unexpected medical expenses, rehabilitation needs, and disruptions to their daily lives. Understanding legal options for compensation can be crucial for those affected. Seeking medical care, documenting injuries, and exploring financial recovery options are essential steps after an accident.
