Atlanta, GA (October 5, 2020) – This past Wednesday night, an infant and a teenager, identified as Anjanae McClain, 18, lost their lives in a high-speed accident that occurred at an intersection in Atlanta. Three others, who have yet to be identified, were also injured in the crash.
The incident took place at the intersection of 10th Street and Techwood Drive just after 9:30 p.m. this past Wednesday night, September 30.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, a vehicle that was traveling at excessive speeds on I-75 near Howell Mill Road was apprehended by police. The car was identified as a black BMW coupe that was traveling over 120 miles per hour on the interstate.
State troopers reported to a local news source that the vehicle refused to pull over and initiated a high-speed chase through traffic with police officers. A few moments into the chase, the driver exited the interstate onto 17th street, sped down to 10th street, and crashed.
The driver, who has not been identified at this time, crashed into three other vehicles, one of them identified as a Nissan Altima. Two individuals present inside the Altima at the time of the collision, both minors, lost their lives in the fatal crash.
Anjanae McClain was pronounced deceased at the accident scene by medical professionals. An infant, who remains unidentified at this time, was transported to a nearby medical center to receive treatment for critical injuries sustained in the wreck, but sadly the baby passed away shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Three others involved in the collision were also transported by ambulance to area hospitals where they received treatment for injuries of a serious nature. They are all listed as in stable condition but have not been identified.
The driver who caused the crash attempted to flee the accident scene on foot but was caught on surveillance video. A warrant is out for his arrest.
The driver at fault has only been identified to the public as a 25-year-old male.
No further information has been released at this time. An ongoing investigation into the accident and its circumstances are currently active.
