Atlanta, GA (April 7, 2023) – A deputy from Coweta County and another motorist were airlifted to the hospital on Thursday morning, April 6, following a multi-vehicle accident on northbound Interstate 85 in Troup County.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, the deputy was driving along the interstate at 5:30 a.m. when they lost control and flipped the vehicle. The GSP reports that the deputy was ejected from their squad car as a result of the collision.
A tractor-trailer driver was also traveling along the highway simultaneously and began to slow down as it approached the patrol car. However, a Toyota Corolla collided with the tractor-trailer’s rear when this occurred.
Then, an Infiniti collided with the patrol vehicle, causing it to crash into the tractor-trailer.
The deputy and the Corolla’s driver were both airlifted to a local hospital. The accident blocked down the highway in that area for the majority of the morning.
An investigation remains ongoing in the meantime, and no further details have been released.
Our thoughts go out to the injured victims and their loved ones.
