Auburn, AL – Child Struck by Vehicle at Intersection of East Glenn Ave and East University Drive: Severe Injuries Reported

Auburn, AL (July 27, 2023) – The Auburn Police Department began investigating a severe vehicle crash involving a nine-year-old scooter operator at East Glenn Avenue and East University Drive in Auburn at 8:38 p.m. on July 26, 2023.

A vehicle hit a child walking east on the westbound sidewalk.

Due to the slower uphill speed, the child’s parents followed on another scooter near a shopping center entrance.

Witnesses said both scooters had front and rear lights.

The southbound driver, looking east for approaching traffic before turning right onto East Glenn Avenue from East University Drive, missed the scooter’s lights and the child.

The driver cooperated with authorities and was unimpaired.

The child was taken to Piedmont Hospital and then to UAB Children’s Hospital for surgery after the crash.

The investigations are underway.
