3.27 Rochester, NY - Three Hospitalized Following House Fire on Finch St

Avon, NY – Lawrence Stevens Dies in Lake Rd House Fire

Avon, NY (January 10, 2021) –  A fire that started in the basement of a house on Lake Road in Avon resulted in the death of one man on Wednesday, January 6th at about 8:30 p.m.

Deputies from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office reported that the victim has since been identified as Lawrence Stevens, 65.

An Avon officer who was first on the scene was informed by a resident that her husband was still in the basement. Sheriff’s deputies and the Avon officer attempted to get inside the house but were unable to do so because of the smoke.

Upon their arrival, East Avon firefighters successfully made their way into the house, extricated Stevens from the basement, and extinguished the fire. Emergency medical personnel performed life-saving measures but Stevens ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other resident of the home was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital as a precautionary measure, and a deputy was examined at the site for signs of smoke inhalation.

We would like to offer our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased. Our thoughts are with them and everyone that was affected by this tragedy.
