Bayonne, NJ (September 19, 2023) – A hit-and-run occurred around 8:30 a.m. on Monday, September 18, 2023, at West 56th Street and Avenue C.
A male driver in a white sedan struck a 63-year-old female crossing guard.

She had just assisted schoolchildren across the street.

After hitting her in the crosswalk, the driver briefly stopped.

He helped the injured guard to the sidewalk but fled to Jersey City.

Thankfully, no children were nearby during the crash.

The guard, suffering from back pain, is now hospitalized.

Police are actively searching for the suspect.

The investigation is still ongoing.
