Beaumont, TX (May 24, 2025) – A police officer and another individual sustained injuries Thursday night following a collision on Interstate 10 South in Beaumont. The crash occurred at approximately 11:00 p.m. in the 3700 block of the northbound lanes of IH-10 South.
The officer was on duty at the time, having positioned his patrol vehicle to block the outside and middle lanes in response to a prior accident further north along the highway. Emergency lights on the unit were activated when the incident occurred.
Authorities reported that a white Dodge Ram traveling in the area failed to control its speed and struck the rear of the stationary patrol vehicle. The force of the impact pushed the patrol unit into another vehicle traveling in the inside lane. Medics and fire crews worked to assist those suffering from injuries after the collision.
Both the officer and the civilian driver involved were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The driver of the Dodge Ram was cited at the scene, though specific charges have yet to be released. An investigation into the full circumstances surrounding the crash is ongoing.

Highway Incidents and First Responder Safety in Texas
Law enforcement officers frequently face heightened risks when responding to highway accidents, especially on high-speed routes like IH-10 in Texas. Emergency scenes are dynamic, often involving stopped traffic, unexpected lane changes, and reduced visibility during nighttime hours. Despite clear signaling, including flashing lights and marked vehicles, collisions like Thursday’s in Beaumont highlight the vulnerabilities officers endure while performing their duties.
IH-10 is one of Texas’s most heavily traveled interstates, and the segment running through Beaumont is no exception. Speeding, driver inattention, and unsafe lane changes are common contributors to secondary crashes. In this case, the Dodge Ram’s failure to reduce speed led directly to the chain reaction crash that left two people injured.
Drivers must remain vigilant and reduce speed when approaching scenes involving emergency personnel. Texas laws, including the “Move Over, Slow Down” statute, require drivers to shift lanes or decelerate when approaching emergency vehicles with flashing lights. Failure to comply not only endangers lives but also carries legal consequences.
If you or a loved one has been injured in a traffic accident, seeking proper care and understanding your legal options can make a significant difference in recovery.
