Bergen, NY (May 19, 2020) – A fatal one-vehicle accident was reported in the town of Bergen on Monday evening, May 18th, according to police officials. The accident claimed the life of one man and left two others injured along Townline Road.
Authorities said that Elijah Coombs, 25, of Oakfield, was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Impala when the vehicle crossed the center line and struck a utility pole at around 7:11 p.m. Crews responded to the scene and pronounced Coombs deceased. Coombs’ two passengers, a 21-year-old woman from Byron and a 26-year-old man from Oakfield, both were hospitalized.
Officials stated that the male passenger was airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital while the female passenger was transported via ground ambulance. Officers have not determined what led to the crash as the incident remains under investigation.
