Bertie County, NC – Head-On Crash Claims Lives of Two Brothers, Father Airlifted to Trauma Center

Bertie County, NC (July 11, 2023) – A Bertie County head-on collision killed two brothers and hospitalized their father.

Highway 11, north of Lewiston Woodville, saw the incident at 1:20 p.m. on Sunday, July 9, 2023.

Brandon Hawks drove his sons, 13-year-old Ayden and 11-year-old Keeton.

The Highway Patrol said their vehicle swerved into the opposite lane to avoid a car turning into a driveway, causing a head-on crash with an SUV.

Ayden was ejected from the car while Keeton was trapped inside.

Both children passed away at the scene. Their father was airlifted to ECU Health Medical Center in fair condition.

Other vehicle drivers and families suffered minor injuries. Charges are pending in the crash.
