Birmingham, AL (March 19, 2025) – Emergency responders were called to a serious multi-vehicle crash Tuesday morning that left five people injured and resulted in the temporary closure of Highway 79.
According to reports, the collision occurred around 7:30 a.m. on Hwy 79 near Jeff State Pkwy. The Center Point Fire District, Birmingham Fire, and RAMS air medical helicopter arrived at the scene to assist those hurt in the crash.
Three of the injured individuals had to be extricated from their vehicles. Paramedics transported three victims to a local hospital, while one was airlifted to UAB Trauma Center for advanced medical care.
Authorities temporarily shut down all lanes of Hwy 79 to allow fire and rescue crews to work safely. The roadway has since reopened.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department is currently investigating the cause of the crash. Further details have not been released.
