Bismarck, ND (July 22, 2020) – A man from the city of Bismarck was arrested and charged after he was determined to be the cause of a car accident and then proceeded to hide from local law enforcement inside of a Texas Roadhouse restaurant on Sunday, July 19th.

Officers from the Bismarck Police Department released a report stating that a 27-year-old male, Zachary Sarkilahti, collided with two other vehicles at the heavily traveled intersection of Burnt Boat Drive and Tyler Parkway.

According to dispatch logs, Sarkilahti then attempted to hide inside of a nearby Texas Roadhouse restaurant where he was later found and arrested.

Police have stated that they discovered an open bottle of vodka inside of Sarkilhati’s vehicle and were also able to smell the alcohol on his breath.

When the officers tried to take Sarkilhati to a nearby medical facility to be cleared medically, he kicked a patrol car and aggressively threatened the staff members attempting to treat him.

Officers present at the scene said that a 16-year-old and a six-year-old both sustained serious injuries during the collision. The conditions of the occupants of the other vehicle were not made immediately clear.

Sarkilhati has been issued citations for terrorizing, liability in a car accident that involved injury or death, evading police capture, minor assault, two charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, and refusing to pull his vehicle over.

This incident remains under investigation by officers from the Bismarck Police Department. There is no further information currently available.

Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
