Blue Ridge, VA – David Williams Killed by Driver on SR-607

Blue Ridge, VA (December 07, 2020) – Virginia State Police responded to the scene of an accident involving a pedestrian fatality in Nottoway County on Saturday, December 5th.

The deceased has since been identified as 41-year-old David W. Williams, a resident of Crewe.

According to state troopers, the accident took place along Route 460 at about 12:55 a.m. when, for reasons that have yet to be determined, an eastbound 1990 Chevrolet 1500 pick-up truck being driven by Williams ran off the lefthand side of the roadway and into a median roughly 600 feet west of State Route 607.

Following this, Williams left his truck on the side of the road and started walking eastbound along Route 460.

As he was walking, Williams was hit by a car that was also heading eastbound on Route 460, about a fifth of a mile east of the initial collision site. The car that struck Williams as he was walking failed to stop and render aid or remain at the scene and wait for the police.

Williams died at the scene.

Blue Ridge, VA - David Williams Killed by Driver on SR-607

A publication issued by the Virginia Highway Safety Office states that slightly less than 10% of all car accidents that involve pedestrians end in a fatality. Even pedestrians who manage to live through a pedestrian accident in Virginia will most likely still be forced to endure overwhelming psychological trauma and debilitating physical injuries that will dramatically hinder their ability to participate in and enjoy life the way they used to.
