Bowers Hill, VA (December 10, 2020) – A man from the town of New Bern was the victim of a fatal collision just outside of Norfolk on the morning of Sunday, December 6th after he pulled off the side of the road to offer assistance to another motorist.
As reported by the Virginia State Police, 30-year-old Ashley Burroughs was driving on Interstate 664 when he saw a vehicle leave the roadway, crash into a concrete barrier, and overturn near Bowers Hill.
Burroughs pulled over to assist the woman, but moments after he exited his vehicle, an oncoming car ran into the back of his pick-up truck which then rolled on top of him.
He was transported via ambulance to a local trauma center with injuries that were considered life-threatening. Burroughs’ doctor put him on life support but he passed away due to his injuries on Monday, December 7th.
The two occupants of the vehicle that struck Burroughs were also transported to a medical facility for emergency medical treatment of injuries believed to be non-life-threatening. Their identities have not been released.
This accident is under investigation by the Virginia State Police.
