Brentwood, NY (April 9, 2023) – One man lost his life in a fatal traffic accident in Brentwood on Wednesday, according to information from local reports. The accident took the life of 36-year-old Brandon Gillespie of Smithtown.
A man was taken into police custody and charged with the unlicensed, aggravated operation of a motor vehicle after he collided with Gillespie’s vehicle at around 12:45 a.m. on Wednesday, April 5.
Sources say Gillespie was driving a 2012 Jeep Liberty on the Long Island Expressway when he was rear-ended by 31-year-old Taron Smith who was driving a 2016 Ford box truck. At the time of the crash, Gillespie’s vehicle was stopped in the right eastbound lane of the expressway.
Gillespie was pronounced deceased at the crash scene. Smith was uninjured, arrested, and charged in connection with the accident.
Authorities in Brentwood continue to investigate.
