Bridgeport, WV (April 22, 2025) – A two-vehicle accident on the ramp from Interstate 79 southbound near Johnson Avenue sent two individuals to the hospital Tuesday morning and resulted in one vehicle overturning near the entrance to Meadowbrook Mall.
The crash was reported at approximately 11:13 a.m., according to Harrison County 911 records. Crews from multiple agencies, including the Bridgeport Police and Fire Departments, Anmoore EMS, and Harrison County EMS, were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, responders found one vehicle flipped onto its side at the base of the ramp, while the other car remained upright nearby with visible damage.
Two people were transported from the scene by ambulance for further evaluation and treatment. Their current conditions have not yet been disclosed. Officials have not released the identities of those involved, and no additional injuries were reported at the time of the response.
Photos captured by a local news reporter show the flipped vehicle resting on its passenger side as emergency crews assessed the situation and worked to stabilize the scene. The crash caused significant traffic delays along Johnson Avenue, though no full lane closures were reported. West Virginia 511 indicated a traffic backup extending from the ramp area.
As of now, the cause of the crash is under investigation. Authorities are examining whether speed, merging conflicts, or road conditions may have contributed to the incident.
We send our well wishes to the injured and hope for their full recovery.
Ramp and Merge Zone Crashes in West Virginia
Highway ramps—such as the one connecting Interstate 79 to Johnson Avenue—are common sites for serious vehicle collisions. Their curved geometry, frequent merging, and limited shoulder space make them particularly hazardous when drivers misjudge speed or spacing. In incidents like Tuesday’s crash in Bridgeport, a moment of distraction or a rushed merge can result in a rollover or multi-vehicle impact.
The fact that one vehicle flipped onto its side highlights the violent nature of ramp crashes. These accidents often lead to trauma requiring hospital evaluation, even when external damage seems moderate. Emergency responders must act quickly to secure overturned vehicles, provide medical care, and ensure scene safety, especially in areas with high traffic volumes.
For those involved, the aftermath of a ramp collision can be complicated. Injuries, vehicle recovery, and insurance claims all require urgent attention, and victims may find themselves uncertain about their next steps.
