Apartment Fires in New York
Our practiced New York fire injury lawyers have handled many apartment fire cases and are prepared to conduct a thorough investigation on your behalf. Many landlords, property owners, and property managers endanger the lives of their tenants in order to save money. They cut corners and take shortcuts without any thought for the safety of their tenants.
If you can show that someone else’s negligence was, in any way, responsible for the fire and your related injuries, you could have grounds to file a personal injury claim.
In the course of our investigation, we will examine the circumstances that led to the incident and effectively identify any possible violations such as:
- Violations of the current building and fire codes
- Failing to maintain or inspect sprinklers, fire extinguishers, smoke alarms, and other equipment and systems designed to prevent fires
- Failure to repair or replace defective and/or damaged electrical wiring, gas lines, appliances, and any other possible cause of fire in a timely manner
It is also possible for a third party to be assigned a percentage of fault for the fire inhibiting your ability to safely exit the building. In these scenarios, it is possible to file a lawsuit against third-party respondents including:
- The contractor that built the apartment building
- The manufacturer that produced a defective smoke alarm
- The propane company, in cases where the fire was the result of a propane tank explosion
- The electrician that wired the building and their employer, in cases where the fire was electrical in nature
- The gas company, in cases where the fire was caused by a gas explosion
