Bronx, NY – Update: One Killed, Two Injured on Evergreen Ave in Soundview

Bronx, NY (January 30, 2023) – Authorities have updated information concerning an apartment fire that was initially reported to have resulted in three injuries. According to law enforcement, one of the victims succumbed to their injuries, and the fire is now deemed suspicious in nature.

Reports show that on Sunday afternoon, January 29th, a fire broke out inside an apartment located on Evergreen Avenue, in the vicinity of Westchester Avenue in the Soundview section of the Bronx. Firefighters were called to the scene shortly before 2:00 p.m. to extinguish the blaze and assist those involved.

Over 100 responders arrived at the scene, where they found three people injured, one seriously. EMTs attended to the victims but were unable to save the seriously wounded patient. That victim passed away from their injuries.

Two others were hospitalized with unspecified injuries, and their current conditions are not available. The fire was deemed under control at approximately 3:00 p.m.

The cause of the fire has now been called suspicious and remains under investigation.
