Brooklyn, NY (October 23, 2022) – A man died after his moped caught the rear lift gate of a truck that was double parked in Brooklyn on Friday, October 21st.

The incident occurred at about 11:30 a.m. in the area of Lincoln Place and Schenectady Avenue in the Crown Heights section of the borough.

According to sources, the 48-year-old moped rider was driving the vehicle southbound along Schenectady Avenue when he made contact with the truck’s gate. This caused him to lose control of the moped and strike another vehicle.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. It is unclear if the driver of the third vehicle was injured.

The driver of the double-parked truck was issued a summons.

Moped Fatalities in New York

Brooklyn, NY - Double-Parked Truck Leads to Death of Moped Rider at Schenectady Ave and Lincoln Pl

Moped accident victims usually sustain very severe injuries due to the lack of safety features these types of vehicles offer. During the past several years, there has been a statewide upsurge in accidents involving motorcycles, scooters, mopeds, and dirt bikes.

These crashes can involve passenger vehicles, pedestrians, tractor-trailers, other motorized bikes, fixed objects, or single-vehicle accidents that cause injuries to passengers.

Collisions involving motorized bikes are no less perilous and their repercussions no less serious than an accident involving a passenger vehicle. They are just as likely to leave their victims dead or deal with the same catastrophic physical consequences and economic fallout as any other kind of accident.

A New York personal injury attorney can review your case and determine if you have a viable claim.

After losing a loved one in a careless, reckless, or otherwise negligent New York moped accident by no fault of the victim, it may feel like no amount of compensation could make you feel complete again. While it is true that no financial restitution can ever fully make up for your losses, filing a wrongful death claim against the responsible party or parties can go a long way toward helping you find some semblance of peace again.
