Brooklyn, NY (May 25, 2021) – Early on Tuesday morning, May 25th, an apartment fire broke out in the East Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn that left one person dead and six others injured. It happened around 5:00 a.m. inside of a building located on East 95th Street, in the vicinity of Clarkson Avenue.
Authorities say that a massive fire started inside the two-story brick building and emergency responders were immediately dispatched to the scene. One resident was transported to Brookdale University Hospital where they were pronounced deceased but no identifying information has been reported.
Firefighters worked to rescue tenants from the flames, some of who were on the roof and second-floor landing to escape the fire. A total of six residents were taken to Kings County Hospital where they are currently expected to live. One female tenant has been listed in critical condition.
Authorities say that one firefighter also suffered minor injuries but it’s unclear as to whether or not they were hospitalized. Arson is believed to be a possible cause but an investigation is actively ongoing at this time.

Residential Fires in New York
A national average of around 2.5 deaths and 9.8 injuries per 1,000 residential fires was reported in 2018, according to the U.S. Fire Administration. Throughout New York state, fatalities triggered by residential fires rose by no less than 50% between the years of 2016 and 2017. Data also shows that during the same year, a total of 73 civilian fatalities were the consequences of serious residential fires in New York. Tragically, such overwhelming events often leave victims and their loved ones with severe pain and suffering by no fault of their own.
After losing a loved one in a careless, reckless, or otherwise negligent New York accident by no fault of the victim, it may feel like no amount of compensation could make you feel complete again. While it is true that no financial restitution can ever fully make up for your losses, filing a wrongful death claim against the responsible party or parties can go a long way toward helping you find some semblance of peace again.
