Brooklyn, NY (February 16, 2023) – Authorities have identified the man who was killed in a chaotic collision involving a U-Haul that struck a total of nine people in Brooklyn on Monday morning, February 13th. The incident began at the intersection of Bay Ridge Parkway and 5th Avenue in the Bay Ridge neighborhood at approximately 10:50 a.m.
Authorities say that a man, who has since been identified as Weng Sor, went on an alleged rampage after stealing a U-Haul and struck nine people, including pedestrians and cyclists. Emergency crews arrived at the scene after police boxed in the U-Haul and worked to assist all those who had been struck by the vehicle.
One man, who has now been identified as Yijie Ye, suffered severe injuries to his head and was ultimately pronounced deceased. A total of eight other people were also injured in the incident.
Weng Sor was taken into custody and has since been charged with second-degree murder, as well as seven counts of attempted murder.
The incident still remains under investigation.
