Brooklyn, NY (May 9, 2023) – A tragic fire broke out early Tuesday morning, on May 9th, in a Brooklyn home, killing a woman and a 17-year-old girl, and leaving three children injured.
The blaze started around 2:15 a.m. in a three-story house on Fountain Avenue near Liberty Avenue in Cypress Hills, and authorities are investigating it as a homicide.
The 36-year-old woman was found inside the home and pronounced dead at the scene, while the teen girl was rushed to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, where she later died. Two other girls, aged 10 and 14, and a 9-year-old boy were also taken to the hospital, each in critical condition.
According to sources, an accelerant was discovered at the scene, leading authorities to investigate the incident as a homicide.
Although all six victims are believed to be related, police were unable to confirm that information.
A dozen FDNY units, including 60 firefighters and EMS workers, responded to the incident, and the official cause of the fire is still under investigation.
