Buchanan County, VA (July 6, 2023) – One person lost their life as a result of a motor vehicle accident that took place on Monday afternoon in Buchanan County. The accident was reported to the Virginia State Police just before 3:40 p.m. on July 3.
Police reports indicate that a 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche was heading westbound on Route 83. For unknown reasons, the vehicle crossed over the centerline of the roadway and collided head-on with a 2019 Nissan Frontier. The two vehicles struck a guard rail on the eastbound side of the road and came to rest.
The driver of the Chevrolet, 28-year-old Justin Vandyke, was seriously injured. He was transported to a local hospital for emergency care. The driver of the Nissan, 45-year-old Connie McClanahan, was transported to a local hospital for the treatment of serious injuries.
A passenger in the Nissan, 56-year-old Warren TE Cline, suffered fatal injuries. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The crash is currently being investigated.
