Buffalo, NY (October 25, 2022) – Authorities say that four teenagers were killed, and two others injured in a tragic car crash that took place in the city of Buffalo. The fatal accident was reported on New York Route 33 on Tuesday morning, October 25th.

According to law enforcement, six teens between the ages of 14 and 17 were traveling westbound on the 33 in a Kia when the vehicle rolled several times near the Route 98 off-ramp. Five of the occupants were ejected from the vehicle during the crash, and emergency responders were dispatched to the scene.

Three of the victims were pronounced deceased at the scene and the other three were transported to Erie County Medical Center. One of the hospitalized victims succumbed to their injuries at ECMC.

The 16-year-old driver was reportedly treated and released while one teen remains in the intensive care unit.

At this time, authorities believe that the vehicle was stolen as part of a viral social media trend called the “Kia Challenge.” The challenge reportedly challenges people to break into different Kia vehicles using their phone chargers. Charges are expected to be filed but few other details are available.

The incident remains under investigation.
