Camden County, GA (January 8, 2020) – An officer with the Camden County Sheriff’s Department sustained injuries in a crash that took place after a high-speed chase on Wednesday morning, January 7. The chase began in McIntosh County and lasted for close to 30 minutes, spanning over 40 miles.
The incident occurred when a vehicle traveling on I-95 at approximately 3:00 a.m. on the 7th was clocked by a police officer at speeds higher than 120 miles per hour. The speeding vehicle was traveling south when the officer attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle did not slow down or stop.
Instead, the driver switched off their headlights and increased their speed to approximately 150 miles per hour. Police deployed stop sticks in Glynn County on I-95 in an attempt to halt the vehicle, but it still refrained from stopping.
At approximately 3:30 a.m. in the vicinity of mile marker 1 in Camden County, a CCSD officer utilized a pit maneuver in order to stop the vehicle. According to the preliminary investigation into the circumstances of the crash that followed, the speeding vehicle collided with a guardrail before striking the deputy’s vehicle, causing it to flip over a number of times, according to information provided by the Georgia State Patrol.
GSP also stated that the Camden County police officer was transported to Shands Hospital with a fractured knee and other non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the speeding vehicle sustained no injuries in the crash.
The driver was identified as Olorsor Larose, 35. He was booked into the Camden County Jail.
