Cape Coral, FL (April 16, 2020) – A fatal two-vehicle crash took place in Cape Coral this past Wednesday that took the lives of two individuals involved.
The accident happened on Burnt Store Road around 8:45 a.m. on April 15 between a passenger car and a dump truck.
The passenger car, a 2018 Mazda CX5, belonged to Joseph Voll, 82, and his wife, Susan Voll, 78. They were traveling on Burnt Store Road when their vehicle collided with a dump truck, sadly taking both of their lives.
The dump truck, being driven by Christopher A. Abdill, 37, of Fort Myers, was headed south on Burnt Store when, in an attempt to avoid hitting the rear of another dump truck, he veered left and crossed the centerline. Abdill was not injured in the crash.
The dump truck then deviated from the west end of the roadway and the left portion of its front bumper struck the front left part of Voll’s Mazda.
The area the accident occurred on Burnt Store Road was blocked off for approximately 7 hours to allow for police to carry out a primary investigation and clean-up crews to clear the roadway.
The collision and its circumstances remain under investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to call Cape Coral PD at 239-574-3223 or submit an anonymous tip at www.capecops.com/tipsTips.
We would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased victims at this time.
