Carlsbad, NM (December 22, 2022) – On Wednesday afternoon, December 21st, the New Mexico State Police looked into a deadly collision that occurred on Highway 62/180 east of Carlsbad. Earl Burton, 45, was killed in the collision, according to police, which happened on Wednesday at about 3:00 p.m.
According to the NMSP, their investigation reveals that Burton was operating a 2015 Nissan passenger car when it struck a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado head-on while traveling east in the westbound lanes. Emergency crews were called to the scene.
At the site, Burton’s death was confirmed. The Silverado’s driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Police say that drinking may have had a role in the collision.
The events that led to the crash are under investigation.
