Carthage, MO (September 19, 2023) – An illegal race involving two Carthage teenagers led to a crash around 9 p.m. on Sunday, September 17, 2023.

On Palamino Rd., a 12-year-old male crossed the center line, hitting the side of a vehicle driven by a 14-year-old they were racing against.

The 14-year-old’s car then veered off the road, hit a tree, and overturned.

Both the passenger in the 12-year-old’s car and the 14-year-old driver sustained injuries.

They were taken to Mercy Hospital in Joplin with moderate injuries.

The investigation is still ongoing.
