Catskill, NY (March 30, 2023) – One person tragically lost their life during a fire that was caused by an explosion in the town of Catskill. The fatal incident happened early on Wednesday morning, March 29th, on Lower Main Street.
Authorities say that at around 6:30 a.m., crews with the Catskill Fire Company arrived at the scene to find a home engulfed in flames. Firefighters made attempts to rescue a person who was reportedly trapped on the second floor, but the intensity of the fire forced crews back. Oxygen tanks reportedly exploded during the incident, but few other details are available.
The resident who was trapped on the second floor was pronounced deceased of their injuries. There was no report of any other injuries.
Crews remained at the scene fighting the fire for several hours, according to reports. The official cause of the fire is under investigation.
