Chamblee, GA (August 4, 2020)– A serious seven-car accident took place on August 2, causing several injuries and one fatality.
Police were initially called to the scene due to a report of a stolen vehicle and possible kidnapping. A man went into a store and left his young unattended son waiting in his 2007 Ford F150 in the parking lot.
Another man saw the vehicle still running, unattended, and got behind the wheel, putting it in reverse quickly slamming into a car in the parking lot. It is unclear if he knew the child was in the car at the time.
After colliding with the motorist, he allowed the young boy to leave the truck. The child was treated at Atlanta’s Egleston Children’s Hospital for a head wound.
The assailant tried leaving the parking lot at a high rate of speed, where he then collided with several more vehicles at the corner of Chamblee Tucker Road and Buford Highway.
Seven vehicles were reportedly involved in the wreck.
An eighty-year-old woman died in the accident.
The assailant fled the scene but was later apprehended by Chamblee Police thanks to video footage.
An investigation is on-going but new information will be released as it comes available.
