Rear-End Collisions and Seatbelt Safety in South Carolina
Rear-end crashes like the one that occurred on Davison Rd remain a frequent cause of injuries and fatalities across South Carolina. These accidents often stem from speeding, distraction, or misjudging the distance between vehicles. In this case, the impact proved fatal for one driver, who was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt—a decision that can drastically increase the risk of death in a crash.
Seatbelt use is among the most critical safety measures drivers can take. According to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety, wearing a seatbelt reduces the risk of fatal injury by nearly 45% in passenger cars. State law requires all vehicle occupants to wear seatbelts, regardless of seating position.
Beyond personal safety, rear-end collisions can lead to legal and insurance complications, especially when fault is involved. Victims of such crashes should ensure they receive prompt medical care, document the accident thoroughly, and consult with legal professionals to understand their rights.
