Congestion and Crash Risk Along Charlotte’s Interstate Corridors
The interchange of I-85 and Billy Graham Pkwy is a known traffic hotspot in the Freedom area of Charlotte, often experiencing congestion during peak travel hours. These high-speed zones with frequent lane shifts, exits, and merges can be breeding grounds for rear-end collisions and sideswipes, particularly when drivers are distracted or unfamiliar with the area.
Crashes near exit ramps are especially hazardous, as vehicles slow suddenly or shift lanes to avoid missing exits. Even minor miscalculations can have severe consequences, leading to chain-reaction crashes that involve multiple vehicles and cause extended traffic delays.
For those injured in such crashes, the path to recovery can be complicated by insurance negotiations, medical costs, and the need to establish liability. Under North Carolina law, contributory negligence rules mean that even a small degree of fault on the part of the injured party could limit or eliminate compensation. That’s why documenting the scene thoroughly and seeking immediate legal guidance is often essential.
