Chaumont, NY – George Sipos Killed in Pedestrian Accident on NY-12E

Chaumont, NY (October 3, 2020) – On Friday evening, October 2, a man was killed in a fatal pedestrian accident in Chaumont.

The accident, according to police, took place around 7:45 p.m. when a pedestrian was walking on NY-12E and was struck by a Buick Rendezvous. The driver of the vehicle, identified as 32-year-old Joseph Haas, was unable to stop before striking the pedestrian.

The pedestrian, identified as George Sipos, was then thrown into the westbound lane of traffic and struck by a Chevrolet Equinox traveling through the area.

Police confirmed that the 83-year-old pedestrian was tragically pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Police have not yet identified the driver of the Equinox but their investigation continues.
