Chesapeake, VA (July 4, 2023) – A multiple casualty accident was reported in the Chesapeake area on Monday afternoon following a police pursuit through the area.
At around 2:30 p.m. on July 3, the Chesapeake Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle near Freeman Avenue. For reasons unknown, the driver of the vehicle refused to stop. As a result, a police pursuit ensued.
The vehicle fled the scene traveling forward through the area. At approximately 2:48 p.m., the fleeing vehicle struck a second vehicle on Washington Highway in the area near Gilmerton Road. Authorities arrived at the scene and located a red sedan, which had been broadsided by a silver-colored sedan.
A woman, child, and multiple other victims were injured as a result of this crash. Medical personnel responded to the scene to provide care to the injured victims. Several victims were then transported by ambulance to area hospitals for further medical care.
The Chesapeake Accident Reconstruction Team is currently investigating the incident.
