The Dangers of Work Zone Crashes on Illinois Highways
Highway construction zones, like the one near O’Hare Airport on I-90, present significant risks for motorists, particularly when traffic is reduced to a single lane. Work zones often require drivers to slow down and navigate through shifting lanes, making them a common site for rear-end collisions and multi-vehicle pileups.
Common causes of work zone crashes include distracted driving, sudden braking, and drivers misjudging distances when approaching slowed or stopped traffic. In Illinois, work zone-related crashes frequently lead to severe injuries and major traffic disruptions.
To avoid accidents in construction areas, drivers should remain alert, maintain a safe following distance, and reduce their speed as they approach work zones. Following posted signage and exercising caution can help prevent devastating collisions.
Victims of highway crashes may face medical expenses, vehicle damage, and insurance disputes. Seeking proper assistance can help those affected recover and navigate the post-accident process.
