Chicago, IL (March 19, 2025) – A pedestrian was fatally struck in a chaotic three-vehicle crash late Monday night near Midway Airport. The incident occurred around 11:14 p.m. in the 5200 block of West 63rd Street, leaving a path of destruction that included damage to an airport hangar.
According to Chicago police, a white Infiniti sedan sideswiped a black Infiniti sedan before one of the vehicles struck a Nissan traveling in the same direction. The white Infiniti then jumped the curb, hitting 38-year-old Jamie T. Cerney, a pedestrian who was nearby.
Emergency responders transported Cerney to Advocate Christ Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Following the pedestrian impact, the white Infiniti continued moving and crashed into a hangar at Midway Airport. The driver of that vehicle was taken to the hospital in fair condition, while a female passenger was transported with unknown injuries.
Authorities reported that the driver of the black Infiniti was uninjured but was taken to the hospital as a precaution. His female passenger was also unharmed. The driver of the Nissan involved in the collision was not injured and declined medical treatment.

Multi-Vehicle Crashes and Pedestrian Dangers in Chicago
Multi-vehicle collisions are among the most unpredictable and dangerous types of crashes, often leading to chain reactions that cause severe damage and injuries. In urban areas like Chicago, where streets are congested and pedestrians frequently navigate busy roadways, the risks of these accidents increase significantly.
One of the biggest hazards in high-speed, multi-vehicle crashes is the unpredictability of vehicle movement after impact. As seen in this incident, one vehicle veered off course and struck a pedestrian, demonstrating how bystanders can become unintended victims. Additionally, when accidents occur near high-traffic areas such as Midway Airport, the potential for damage to surrounding structures and additional injuries escalates.
For victims and their families, the aftermath of a pedestrian-involved crash can be devastating. Funeral expenses, medical bills for injured parties, and the emotional toll of a sudden loss create lasting challenges. If negligence contributed to the crash, families may have legal options to seek justice and financial support.
If you or a loved one has been affected by a pedestrian accident in Chicago, speaking with a legal professional may help clarify your options.
