Speeding is a common factor in serious injury-causing and fatal New York car accidents. Drivers who cause crashes by operating vehicles at hazardous speeds can be held liable for the injuries, deaths, damages, and losses they produce. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that about 30% of all deadly collisions nationwide include a vehicle that was being driven well above the speed limit.

In 2012, across the state, speeding drivers were a prevailing element in 81 fatalities, a major jump from the 49 deaths that took place the year before. This uptick in crash fatalities forced New York lawmakers to intervene. Beginning in 2013, the New York Department of Transportation started installing speed enforcement cameras in an attempt to deter speeding motorists.

Being injured in a motor vehicle accident can be an extremely disruptive, frightening, confusing, and overwhelming time in a person’s life. After being hurt in a car crash that was not your fault, the last things you need to be concerned with are the financial obligations and other stressors that only make physical recovery more challenging. Making sure that you have compassionate and skilled representation to fight for your rights so you don’t have to battle insurance companies on your own will go a long way toward helping you move forward.
