City, PA (September 19, 2023) – Two successive crashes occurred on Pennsylvania Route 581 near the on-ramp from US Route 15 at 9 p.m. on Sunday, September 17, 2023.
The initial collision involved two cars.
A tow truck, nearby, came to assist.
However, a third car hit the tow truck from behind.
The driver of this car, a 28-year-old Carlisle man, died. His name remains undisclosed awaiting family notification.
Two passengers, a 26-year-old Carlisle woman and a 32-year-old Mechanicsburg woman, suffered serious injuries.
They’re at Penn State Health Holy Spirit Medical Center.
Other involved drivers sustained minor injuries, while the tow truck driver was unharmed.
Rt. 581 near exit 5 was closed for two hours for investigation.
The investigation is still ongoing.
