Cle Elum, WA (March 12, 2025) – A three-vehicle crash on Interstate 90 left a 70-year-old man injured Monday afternoon, causing significant traffic delays near milepost 81.
According to the Washington State Patrol (WSP), the accident occurred on eastbound I-90 when traffic slowed due to debris in the left lane. Igor A. Grudovik of Spokane Valley, driving a 2007 KW construction truck, failed to adjust his speed and collided with the vehicles ahead.
Gary L. Hartig, 70, of Lewiston, Idaho, was driving a 2022 Ford Bronco when his vehicle was struck. He sustained injuries and was transported to Harborview Medical Center for treatment. His wife, Wilma L. Hartig, was also in the vehicle but was not injured. Their vehicle sustained significant damage and was towed from the scene.
The third vehicle involved was a 2025 Nissan Altima, driven by Michael F. Berger of Chicago, Illinois. The Altima sustained reportable damage but remained operable. Berger was uninjured.
Authorities cited Grudovik for negligent driving in the second degree and confirmed that drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash.
Our thoughts are with Gary Hartig, and we wish him a full and speedy recovery.
Multi-Vehicle Crashes in Washington
Highway accidents involving multiple vehicles can be especially dangerous due to chain-reaction impacts and high speeds. Traffic slowdowns, road debris, and driver inattention can all contribute to these crashes, as seen in this incident on I-90.
Washington law requires drivers to maintain a safe following distance and adjust their speed according to traffic and road conditions. Failing to do so can lead to citations and serious consequences, including injuries and costly vehicle damage.
For those injured in multi-vehicle accidents, medical expenses, rehabilitation, and lost wages can create significant burdens. Seeking professional guidance can help victims understand their legal rights and explore potential compensation options.
