Cochecton, NY (March 29, 2023) – Two people were tragically killed in a motor vehicle accident that occurred in the town of Cochecton on Monday afternoon, March 27th. The fatal crash occurred on New York State Route 97 at around 3:45 p.m.
According to law enforcement, 34-year-old James Card, of Beach Lake, PA, was driving a 2008 Audi A4 south when he collided head-on with a 2020 Hyundai Elantra. The crash occurred near the double yellow line in the roadway, and emergency responders were called to the scene a short time later to assist.
First responders arrived at the scene where both Card and the other driver, identified as 24-year-old Edward Sykes of North Branch, were pronounced deceased. No other injuries were reported.
Officials with the New York State Police are actively investigating the cause of the crash. No further details are available.
