Cooper County, MO (March 12, 2025) – A collision on Interstate 70 eastbound at the Lamine River Bridge left two people injured Tuesday morning after a truck struck another vehicle, causing it to crash into the bridge wall.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Cooper County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred around 10:30 a.m. when a 2006 Peterbilt 379, driven by a 63-year-old Springfield, MO man, changed lanes and collided with a 2019 Ford F-350. The impact forced the Ford, driven by a 42-year-old woman from Sturgis, KY, into the bridge barrier.
Emergency responders from Cooper County EMS arrived on the scene and transported both the driver of the Ford and her 8-year-old male passenger to University Hospital. The driver sustained moderate injuries, while the child suffered minor injuries.
The Ford sustained total damage and was towed by Nash Towing, while the Peterbilt had only minor damage and was able to be driven from the scene. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.
Our thoughts are with the injured individuals, and we wish them a full recovery.
Truck Accidents in Missouri
Accidents involving commercial trucks, such as the Peterbilt involved in this crash, can lead to significant injuries due to the sheer size and weight of these vehicles. Lane-change collisions are particularly dangerous on highways, as they can push smaller vehicles into barriers or other traffic, increasing the severity of the crash.
Missouri law requires commercial drivers to take extra precautions when maneuvering on interstates. Blind spots, sudden lane changes, and improper signaling can all contribute to serious accidents. Additionally, occupants of passenger vehicles, such as the Ford F-350 in this crash, are at a much higher risk of injury when colliding with a larger truck.
Drivers sharing the road with commercial trucks should remain aware of their surroundings, avoid lingering in blind spots, and always anticipate potential lane shifts from large vehicles. Likewise, truck drivers must ensure safe lane changes by checking mirrors and using proper signals.
