Cumberland, MD (May 22, 2023) – A wrong-way accident reported in the Cumberland area on Friday evening claimed one person’s life.
The accident was reported at around 11:15 p.m. on May 19.
Reports provided by the Maryland state police show that 70-year-old Jacalyn Scharf collided head-on with a midsize Ford SUV on Jeffries Road during the evening hours.
Scharf suffered fatal injuries as a result of the accident. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Two other people involved in the accident, identified as 51-year-old Lawrence Allen Moyer and 52-year-old Tammy Lynn Moyer, were both injured in the crash. The two victims were transported to UPMC Western Maryland Hospital for emergency care.
At this time, the incident is being investigated.
