Dayton, OH (April 25, 2025) – A serious two-vehicle crash in Darke County early Thursday morning resulted in three people, including two children, being airlifted to the hospital with significant injuries. The collision occurred just after 8:00 a.m. at the intersection of New Harrison-Bradford Road and Auld Road.
Emergency responders, including deputies from the Darke County Sheriff's Office and CareFlight helicopter crews, arrived quickly at the scene following reports of a crash involving multiple injuries. According to the initial investigation, a Chevrolet Silverado traveling southbound on Auld Road failed to yield while attempting to make a left turn onto New Harrison-Bradford Road.
The Silverado was struck on the right front by a Chrysler Sebring heading north on Auld Road. The force of the impact caused severe damage to the Sebring, trapping the driver inside. Rescue personnel had to use mechanical equipment to extricate the driver from the vehicle.
CareFlight airlifted the Sebring driver along with two juvenile passengers to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries. The driver of the pickup truck was assessed at the scene but declined further medical treatment.
The Darke County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the cause of the crash. No additional details regarding the identities of the victims or their current conditions have been released at this time.
Our thoughts are with the injured individuals and their families as they begin the road to recovery.
Intersection Accidents in Ohio
Crashes at rural intersections, like the one that occurred Thursday in Darke County, are unfortunately common and often severe due to high travel speeds and limited visibility. In this case, the collision stemmed from a failure to yield—one of the most frequent causes of serious accidents at unregulated or lightly marked junctions across Ohio.
When vehicles travel at intersecting angles, the risk of side-impact or T-bone collisions increases dramatically, often resulting in significant injuries, especially when children are involved. In this crash, the necessity of extrication and the use of a medical helicopter underscore the seriousness of the impact and the critical nature of the victims’ conditions.
Darke County’s network of rural roads presents unique challenges, including minimal signage, long stretches without traffic signals, and unexpected cross-traffic. Drivers are urged to remain especially vigilant at intersections and to take extra precautions when turning or crossing major routes.
This incident also highlights the vital role of emergency air transport in rural areas. CareFlight’s ability to rapidly deliver trauma patients to advanced care facilities has saved countless lives across southwest Ohio.
For families involved in crashes, especially those resulting in injuries to children, the aftermath can be deeply traumatic and overwhelming. Immediate access to medical care is just the beginning—navigating the recovery process, insurance claims, and emotional toll requires continued support.
