DeWitt, NY (October 14, 2024) – A DeWitt police patrol vehicle was involved in a crash on October 13 while responding to an emergency call. At approximately 2:43 p.m., police received reports of a fight involving 10 to 15 individuals in the vicinity of Caton Drive, prompting an immediate response.
According to Jerry Pace, a spokesperson for the DeWitt Police Department, the officer was traveling west on Kinne Road with emergency lights and sirens activated when the patrol car collided with a Mazda CX-5 that was heading south on Erie Boulevard East. The collision occurred at the intersection, with the patrol vehicle being struck on the passenger side.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and transported the officer, along with the two occupants of the Mazda, to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Both vehicles sustained significant damage and were towed from the scene. As of now, no tickets have been issued related to the incident, and the investigation is ongoing.
