East Syracuse, NY (May 11, 2023) – A man suffered burns after a two-vehicle accident in East Syracuse on Thursday, May 11th. The incident happened near the intersection of Bridge Street and Manlius Center Road, and emergency personnel were called to the scene around 12:24 p.m.
According to Tom Newton, a spokesperson for the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office, the crash involved a van and a box truck. The van bore the brunt of the impact, and subsequently, caught fire.
Reports from the dispatchers suggested that a person may have been trapped inside the van, which was engulfed in flames.
When the emergency responders arrived at the scene, they managed to rescue the man, who had sustained burns to his hands and legs. He was rushed to Upstate University Hospital via ambulance for medical attention.
Thankfully, the man’s injuries were non-life-threatening, according to Newton, and he was the only one who was injured in the accident. The cause of the accident remains unknown, but the authorities are investigating the incident.
