Edinburg, TX ( July 11, 2023) – A hit-and-run accident on Tower Road resulted in the tragic death of a cyclist, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS). The incident occurred east of Edinburg on Sunday night.
The fatal accident occurred around 11:00 p.m. on Tower Road, north of South Trail Drive, on July 9th, 2023.
A white 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe struck a male cyclist and fled the scene.
Regrettably, the cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, and his identity was not released.
Authorities discovered the Chevrolet near the crash site at Alamo Road and Texas Road intersect.
The vehicle exhibited damage consistent with the evidence found at the crash scene.
The driver, identified as 19-year-old Alan Nicolas Rios, was located near his residence.
Rios was subsequently arrested and charged with intoxication and manslaughter.
He was then transported to the Hidalgo County Detention Center.
The Texas DPS is currently investigating the crash.
