Estero, FL (March 12, 2025) – A multi-vehicle crash involving a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) vehicle on I-75 North in Estero Tuesday night left two people injured and resulted in significant traffic disruptions.
According to FHP, a state trooper was completing an investigation of a previous crash when a separate collision occurred. The trooper was parked on the left shoulder in a Dodge Charger patrol car when a Hyundai Sonata, traveling at a high rate of speed, struck the rear of a Nissan Versa. The impact caused the Hyundai to overturn and crash into the parked FHP vehicle.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and transported two individuals from another vehicle to the hospital with minor injuries. Fortunately, the trooper inside the parked vehicle was not injured.
A total of four vehicles were damaged in the crash, and authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Motorists in the area faced delays as crews worked to clear the roadway. Drivers are reminded to exercise caution around emergency response scenes and adhere to Florida’s Move Over Law, which requires vehicles to slow down or change lanes when approaching stopped law enforcement or emergency vehicles.
Our thoughts are with those injured, and we wish them a full recovery.
Highway Accidents in Florida
Highway crashes, especially those involving high-speed impacts, often result in severe injuries and vehicle damage. The recent accident on I-75 highlights the dangers of reckless or inattentive driving, particularly near active crash scenes where law enforcement and emergency responders are working.
Florida's Move Over Law is designed to prevent secondary collisions like this one. Drivers are legally required to slow down or move over when approaching emergency vehicles stopped on the roadside. Failing to follow this rule puts not only first responders at risk but also other drivers and passengers on the road.
For those injured in highway accidents, the aftermath can be challenging, involving medical expenses, vehicle repairs, and emotional distress. Seeking legal and medical assistance can help victims navigate their recovery and understand their options moving forward.
