Excelsior Springs, MO (October 17, 2024) – A tragic incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon when the owner of Hart's Auto Repair shop died following an explosion at the facility. Emergency crews responded to the scene shortly after 1:15 p.m. after receiving reports of a fire at the auto repair shop.
Upon arrival, responders encountered a massive fire that had erupted as a result of the explosion. Unfortunately, police confirmed that the owner of the shop did not survive the incident. Additionally, a second individual was injured in the explosion and was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the owner was using a cutting torch to open a 55-gallon barrel or drum when the explosion occurred. It is believed that a chemical reaction took place once the barrel was cut open, leading to the catastrophic explosion. The force of the blast not only caused extensive damage to the shop but also ignited nearby vehicles and equipment.
