Fairmont, WV (March 26, 2025) – Emergency crews in Marion County responded to a disturbing hit-and-run crash Saturday evening after an unconscious pedestrian was found lying in the roadway along the 1200 block of Fairmont Avenue. The incident occurred around 8:04 p.m. and prompted a multi-agency response from EMS, fire personnel, and local police.
According to initial reports, EMS crews were already in the area responding to a separate emergency when they encountered the injured pedestrian in the roadway. Shortly after, 911 dispatchers received confirmation that the incident was a vehicle versus pedestrian hit-and-run.
Medics immediately rendered aid to the unconscious individual, who had sustained serious injuries. The victim was transported to a local hospital for emergency treatment. As of this report, no updates have been provided on the patient’s condition, but the injuries were described as critical.
Fairmont Fire Department and Fairmont Police Department quickly responded to the scene to assist with care and begin a thorough investigation. At this time, the driver involved has not been located, and authorities are urging anyone with information or surveillance footage from the area to come forward.

Hit-and-Run Crashes in West Virginia
Hit-and-run incidents—especially those involving pedestrians—represent some of the most serious and heartbreaking types of roadway emergencies. The recent crash on Fairmont Avenue is a grim reminder of the dangers pedestrians face and the devastating consequences when drivers fail to stop and render aid.
West Virginia law requires all drivers involved in any accident—especially those causing injury or death—to stop immediately, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene. Fleeing not only increases the legal consequences but also delays potentially life-saving medical care for the victim. In this case, had EMS crews not been nearby responding to another call, the outcome could have been even more tragic.
Fairmont Avenue is a busy thoroughfare that sees both pedestrian and vehicle traffic, especially during evening hours. In poorly lit conditions or areas lacking crosswalks, visibility is limited, increasing the likelihood of pedestrian injuries. Law enforcement is expected to review security footage from nearby businesses and homes and to rely on community tips to identify the suspect vehicle.
For victims and families impacted by hit-and-run crashes, the aftermath often includes a long road to recovery—physically, emotionally, and financially. Timely information and access to support systems such as victim advocacy, healthcare coordination, and legal guidance are critical in the days and weeks following the incident.
